Banstead Downs Golf Club’s Ross McGowan got his 2010 Race to Dubai campaign up an running with a tied-27th place finish at the Abu Dhabi Championships on Sunday.
The 27-year-old star, who is eyeing qualification for both the US Masters and Ryder Cup this year, shot nine-under over four rounds to collect £11,600.
Cheam-based McGowan finished 12th in the European Tour Order of Merit competition when a second-placed finish at the Dubai World Championships, saw him complete a memorable 2009 that included winning a maiden Tour title at the Madrid Masters.
The world number 65, who remains in the Middle East for this week’s Qatar Masters in Doha, is currently third in the European Ryder Cup rankings and needs to be in the world’s top 50 by the end of March to qualify for a dream trip to Augusta in April.
