Comic says gig at MPs Ann and Alan Keens' home most 'outrageous yet'

The comedian who performed for squatters at MPs Alan and Ann Keens' Brentford home today called it his most "outrageous" gig yet.

A group of 10 squatters had been living in the couple’s “main home” for just over a week when they decided to call on their favourite comic Mark Thomas to hold a comedy club night at the squat. Mr Thomas said: “When I was offered this chance I just thought it would be brilliant. I have performed in some odd places but an MPs squat has to be the most outrageous.

“Local action and campaigns are the things that will propel this forward to get some sort of justice. The gig was fantastic with people spilling out on to the street just to see what was going on.”

Mr Thomas enlisted fellow comic Wil Hodgson and ‘social surrealist poet’ Attila the Stockbroker to perform at the house last Friday.

Squatter Sam said the comedy night would be the first of many community events and the group was looking at moving in a homeless family as soon as possible.

He said: “We don’t want the house to be about what we want. It is for the whole community to make use of and the general consensus seems to be people want a family on the housing list to move in.

“It shouldn’t be hard to find a family as there are about 11,000 people waiting for homes in Hounslow.”
