As a teenager Isleworth resident John Burton, 77, worked as a whaler but in recent times he has become a leading anti-whaling campaigner. He has now written a book, Ta-ra Johnny Boy: Boy Whaler to Rainbow Warrior, about his experiences which he hopes will alert more people to the cause.

The Landmark Arts Centre, in Teddington, has announced a season of song and laughter, with its autumn and winter programme. Music lovers are well catered for as the Festival of Song returns in October and the popular Comedy Works nights are back. There will also be art exhibitions, a quiz night, workshops and a food fair.
