A fish-tank lamp, cellulite cream and iron have been named as some of the worst Mother's Day gifts following new consumer research.
The study was conducted by Netmums on behalf of Sainsbury's and prompted the store to launch Operation Mother's Day in a bid to prevent more mums from receiving the likes of a concrete cat for the garden - which came 15th in the poll.
Female employees will be on hand in the run-up to Sunday to offer advice to sons and husbands who may need extra guidance.
Siobhan Freeguard of Netmums explained that the list revealed different attitudes men and women have to buying gifts, stating: "Women celebrate special days by buying items which bring a little luxury into their lives. Men, on the other hand, simply use it as an excuse to buy what they need."
Netmums has compiled a list of suggestions that might be more suitable, which include making a special afternoon tea or going out for a picnic. The full range of ideas is available here.
